A workshop still run on paper
Production and dispatch were handled between a fixed workstation and printed sheets: the operator left their post to enter a piece of information, came back, re-keyed it. Every round trip is a source of error and lost time.
The goal was to bring the tool to the task: capture and read information where the work happens — on the line, at packing, at the dispatch bay.
Mobile must replace the workstation, not add to it
A field app is only worth having if it is faster than the paper it replaces. It needed reliable scanning, instant label printing and an interface usable one-handed, with gloves on.
Hardware added a constraint: connecting to heterogeneous Bluetooth thermal printers, and a workshop setting where the network is not always available.
A native app, built for the floor
We built a native iOS and Android app, published to the App Store and Google Play, centred on two actions: scan and print. Everything else in the interface gets out of the way of those two.
QR code and barcode scanning
Operators identify an item, a production order or a parcel by scanning it. The information registers immediately, with no re-keying and no trip back to the workstation.
Printing on Bluetooth thermal printers
The app connects to Bluetooth thermal printers to produce labels and slips straight from the floor, the moment an operation is confirmed.
Real-time logistics and production tracking
Every scan feeds flow tracking: production progress, picking and dispatch. Traceability is built as the work happens rather than at the end of the day.
Native iOS and Android, published to the stores
The app is distributed through the App Store and Google Play, with the native camera and Bluetooth access it needs, and an ergonomics suited to standing, on-the-move use.
The technologies we chose
Built with NativePHP — Inertia and Vue.js for the interface, Electron in the packaging chain — and distributed on iOS and Android through the stores. It uses native camera access for QR and barcode scanning and Bluetooth for driving the thermal printers.
